Bishop’s Stortford concert

This programme was presented for Bishop’s Stortford corps to raise funds for the Bible Society. For those unable to be there a copy of the programme is available to download here.

The band were pleased to welcome Clark Mills to the Horn section for the first time having recently moved to the corps from Belfast Temple.

The programme opened with Faith is the Victory and and Lord how I love you before introducing our first soloist Band Sargent Maurice Patterson in Clear Skies. This was followed by Paul Baker with the Lament from Karl Jenkins Stabat Mater before concluding the first section with Songs of the Morning.

There then followed a presentation on behalf of the Bible Society and particularly their work in China where the Bible, which now no longer banned, is now the largest selling book and there are more practising Christians than in all Western Europe. The proceeds of the evening will enable the training of one more pastor to work in China.

Don Jenkins introduced the background to Barrie Gott’s Lightwalk before Andrew Wright led the band through this opening to the final section of the programme.  Deputy Bandmaster Andrew Justice then got out his dancing shoes for a Samba setting of Blessed Assurance. Many will be aware of the Acrobat Challenge for Steve Sykes and Andrew used the final chord to add his contribution to the challenge and the fund.

Don Jenkins then introduced the audience to the background to Robert Redhead’s Quintessence before the band brought the programme to its formal conclusion.

There was however time for the band’s traditional encore of Red Shield.
