Enfield Citadel Band at the Royal College of Music, London
With guest soloist Philip Cobb (Trumpet/cornet)
The 2014 Pre-Contest festival featured great music making from the band and guest soloist, Philip Cobb. Philip, principal trumpet of the London Symphony Orchestra and bandsman at Hendon, thrilled the audience with his scintillating playing in pieces old and new. As a tribute to Retired Bandmaster James Williams MBE, who celebrated his 90th birthday and 70 years service to the band this year, Philip featured Happy all the Day. He also perfomed new music from the pen of Paul Sharman and the now classic William Himes solo Jubilance.
The band also featured new music from Martin Cordner and older repertoire from Eric Ball, Leslie Condon, Dean Goffin, Morley Calvert and Tom Rive. Bandmaster Williams conducted the traditional final piece, The Red Shield.
