Guest soloist for Spring Festival

The band are pleased to announce that Tom Nielsen will be the guest soloist at this years Spring Festival .

In September 2014 he won a place to study trumpet and Cornet with Andrew Mitchell at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama having started playing under the tutelage of his father Carl, 5 years earlier. He is currently a solo cornet player and soloist in the Croydon Citadel Salvation Army Band and has been featured regularly as a soloist in his own right with Salvation Army bands around the UK and in Europe.

Also in 2014, Tom attended the Salvation Army’s Territorial Youth Band course and a year later became and still remains, principal cornet of the band.  In 2016 he attended his first course with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain during which he qualified for the final of the Harry Mortimer solo competition and won the Philip McCann cornet award.

Tom is a Besson Junior Artist and plays a Besson Sovereign BE928GT cornet.

Away from music, he is an avid fan of James Bond and Star Wars films and a keen Newcastle United supporter.
